The final version of Windows 10 will be released to the public in just over two week’s time, so it’s understandable that Microsoft is gearing up for a big retail push. While most of Windows 10’s marketing will revolve around new systems, the operating system will also be available in a standalone boxed edition, packaging for which has leaked out today.
The Windows 10 box art for the disc-based edition is simple: it features a screenshot of the OS, prominently showing the new Windows logo wallpaper as well as the Start menu with its apps and tiles. Blue and purple versions of the packaging will correspond to Windows 10 Home and Pro editions respectively, as seen above.
Microsoft will also be selling Windows 10 on USB sticks, and those editions will come with box art just featuring the Windows logo in either blue or purple. As has been revealed previously, Windows 10 Home will cost $119 as a standalone copy, while Windows 10 Pro will retail for $199.
There is a good chance that Windows 10 will be the last version of the operating system sold in boxes through retail stores. Microsoft plans on delivering future updates to Windows 10, both minor and major, through the internet as the company moves to a ‘Windows as a service’ model, ditching boxed retail copies in the process.
Windows 10 will launch on July 29th, the day which most Windows users will be able to upgrade to the new OS for free. If you aren’t eligibile for Microsoft’s free upgrade, boxed copies will hit store shelves at a later date.
